I think that we need to think twice when we dismiss or devalue popular “mainstream” trends and environments. The mainstream isn’t all from a privileged background and the values they bring to the table may look quite different than ours. I suspect that, more often than not, what we’re dismissing are the values and cultures of people who are different.
